Summer Safety Tips

It's summertime and the living is easy! The summer is a great time to spend with your little one. As always, your child's safety is of the utmost importance. Below are some tips to help you have a safe summer.

Make Your Home More Kid-Friendly
Did you know that exposed cords pose a strangulation hazard to young children? Inspect your home for any loose cords and remove them from harm's way.

Keep Cool
Summers on Long Island can be downright sweltering. Unfortunately, this can lead to heat-related illnesses. To keep your children safe and healthy, make sure that they apply sunscreen, wear loose fitting clothing, and stay out of the sun.

Stay Hydrated
The summer sun and heat can quickly dehydrate you. To combat this, make sure your little one drinks plenty of water throughout the day.

Once the summer is over, your child may be eligible for nursery school. Looking for a superior nursery school on Long Island? If so, choose Miss Sue's Nursery School! Don't wait until the summer is over to enroll. Call 516-938-0894 today to inquire about enrollment.

The Concept of Sharing

If you have a child, you probably know that it is not easy to teach the concept of sharing. However, sharing is a critical concept that should be learned at any early age. Below are some tips and tricks to get your little ones to share.

Define "Mine" and "Yours"
It can be difficult for children to comprehend the concepts of mine and yours. However, you can teach it to them by setting some toys that are specifically for the child. Then, give other toys to the rest of the children.

Take Turns
Another way to teach children about sharing is to have them take turns with a toy. It gives each child one-on-one time with the toy. Once their time is up, they then pass it to the next child.

Real Life Examples of Sharing
Children will learn what sharing is when you point out real life examples. If characters in a book are sharing something, explain that to the child. If you see two people sharing something, say so. This will only help children apply it to their own lives.

At Miss Sue's, we believe that playtime is necessary. Not only do children have fun playing with toys, they learn to share them with one another. If this is the type of nursery school you'd like your child to attend, enroll today! Call 516-938-0894 to learn more about our curriculum.
