Keep Children Safe This Spring

Although our weather lately may feel otherwise, winter has astronomically said goodbye and spring has finally arrived. Soon enough, you’ll start to see flowers blooming, the sun beaming, and everyone enjoying the great outdoors. While it’s a wonderful idea to enjoy the springtime weather, it’s important for you to keep spring safety in mind so your little ones stay protected.

Sun Safety
We’re all in dire need of Vitamin D once the cool winter months are over. But if your kids don’t follow proper precautions, the sun's rays will quickly burn their skin, which can lead to serious health concerns.

Make sure your child wears sunscreen - even on days that are cloudy. Apply an SPF 15 to 30 minutes before going outside and reapply every two to three hours.

Spring Allergies
Springtime allergies are some of the most common health issues of the season. According to Parents.com, up to 40 percent of children in the United States suffer from seasonal allergies.

Look out for common symptoms including sneezing, heavy breathing, runny nose, and itchy eyes, ears, and throat. There are plenty of over-the-counter medication to ease their pain, but make sure to check with your child’s pediatrician before purchasing anything.

Insect Bites
Your kids aren’t the only ones who love the outdoors when the weather gets warm; insects thrive during this time.

Keep a close eye on your child and check for spider bites, tick bites, and bee stings. If they experience difficulty breathing, swelling, or vomiting, get medical attention as soon as possible.

*Watch out while you’re driving. Once the weather warms up, you’ll begin to see an influx of neighborhood kids playing outside. Watch out for balls rolling toward the road (children will likely follow) and always look behind you while pulling out of your driveway.

We hope that the tips above help your little one stay healthy. At Miss Sue's, your child's health and safety are our main concerns. Looking for a health conscious nursery school on Long Island? If so, choose Miss Sue's Nursery School! Call 516-938-0894 today to inquire about enrollment.
