5 Important Sunscreen Facts

I scream, you scream, we all scream for sunscreen! Okay, that might not be the correct quotation — but you will scream if you acquire a sunburn. Although there are many testimonials divulging “expert” facts about this skincare essential, there are some important facts you should know, especially if you have campers!
Fact 1: Thirty is the Magic Number
The American Academy of Dermatology recommends using a sunscreen that is SPF 30. It’s said that this is the most effective, and will foster a decent amount of coverage from the sun’s powerful rays!

Fact 2: Waterproof is Best

Some days are hotter than others, which typically results in perspiration. In order to stay protected from the sun’s rays in all instances, a waterproof sunscreen will do wonders — especially if a swim session is involved!

Fact 3: Follow the Three Year Rule

If a bottle of sunblock sits in your home for more than three years, it’s time to toss it! Like many products, bottles of this sun essential have an expiration date. If you persist on using outdated sunscreen, it won’t be as effective as promised, making the skin more susceptible to unwanted UV exposure.

Fact 4: Use it Daily

This might sound repetitive, but using sunscreen daily is a must — even in the colder months. The sun’s UV strength may weaken after the summer, but it still can be a danger to the skin. Take the extra step each morning, and make sunscreen a must in your daily routine!

Fact 5: Sunscreen is Only the Start

Although sunscreen is a beneficial factor in UV protection, it doesn’t exactly prevent the skin 100% from the sun’s rays. In fact, it’s an added benefit to take some time to go into the shade, or indoors, throughout the day — despite the gorgeous weather!
