What Your Child Will Learn In Preschool

Your child’s first years of school are filled with so many wonderful moments that will help them develop skills necessary for social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Choosing a great pre-school is crucial to your child’s success, as it gives them the building blocks they need to enter into the school system. Here are some things that you can expect your child to learn in preschool:

Letters & Sounds: Kids will learn to recognize all 26 upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet and should be able to spell and print their first name.

Colors, Shapes, Objects: Students will be able to differentiate between a circle and an oval; a square and a rectangle. They will be taught different colors of the rainbow and be expected to identify things like a “red triangle” or an “orange square.”

Numbers and Counting: Teachers will help their students recognize and identify numbers one through ten, in order to be ready for Kindergarten. Students should be able to point out different numbers, as well as being able to count up to 10.

Cutting & Drawing: On a daily basis, your children should partake in at least one creative activity at preschool. As they develop hand-eye coordination and improve their fine motor skills, they will be able to cut with scissors and color beyond scribbling outside the lines.

Socializing & Sharing: Developing social skills is one of the most important benefits of attending preschool. Students will learn how to share and interact in social situations with other kids. They should be able to participate in group activities, communicate and follow simple directions.

At Miss Sue’s Nursery School, our prime educational goal is the development of the whole child — socially, emotionally, physically and educationally. A multi-sensory, holistic approach to learning is provided through play, art, music and physical activities.
