How To Keep Your Preschooler Active

The end of the school year is near, which means it’s up to the parents to keep kids active for the next three months. Here are a few ways to keep your kids off the couch and on track towards a healthy lifestyle.

1. Choose the right activities. Kids attention spans are slim, so try to choose an activity in their age range. This will help keep them interested rather than bored and frustrated.

2. Give them plenty of opportunity. They won’t be able to stay active if you don’t help them. Try scheduling playdates at the park or sign them up for a local sports team!

3. Don’t rely solely on organized sports. Studies show that kids spend about 30 minutes of their practice sessions being completely inactive. So, try to incorporate more than one activity to their schedule.

4. Keep the focus on the fun. Be lenient and don’t worry too much about the rules of the game. In the end, it’s all about having a good time!

5. Play show and tell. Kids follow in their parents footsteps, so instead of telling them to ‘keep their eye on the ball,’ show them. You’ll be amazed at how quickly they’ll catch on.

6. Know when to praise. It’s beneficial to tell your little ones when they’re doing a good job, but be specific and authentic. This can help you instruct them in areas that need more focus than others.

We hope that the tips above help your little one stay healthy. At Miss Sue's, your child's health and safety are our main concerns. Looking for a health conscious nursery school on Long Island? If so, choose Miss Sue's Nursery School! Call 516-938-0894 today to inquire about enrollment.
