It's still winter! That can only mean one thing--no outdoor activities. Don't fret, there are plenty of fun games to play indoor. Below are some of our favorite indoor activities.
Circle Time
At Miss Sue's, we have Circle Time each day. During Circle Time, children learn about a new skill or activity. It is a very interactive part of the day that unleashes the imagination.
Story Time
We understand that reading to young children is extremely important to their overall development. Our teachers love reading stories to the children. It is educational and fun at the same time!
At Miss Sue’s Nursery School,
our prime educational goal is the development of the whole child —
socially, emotionally, physically and educationally. A multi-sensory,
wholistic approach to learning is provided through play, art, music and
physical activities. Please call us for an appointment or with any
questions (24 hours/7 days a week) at 516-938-0894.

Common Health Concerns With Toddlers
At Miss Sue's, we strive to provide our students with a safe atmosphere. We also understand that there are certain health conditions that are unique to toddlers. Below are ways to handle common toddler health concerns.
- Head Bumps- Some toddlers are very adventurous and enjoy exploring the world around them. This can occasionally result in a head bump. If it is severe, seek medical attention immediately.
- Ear Infections- It is also common for toddlers to get ear infections. However, if your toddler gets them consistently, it is best to discuss tube replacement with your pediatrician.
- Dental Issues- Toddlers should have their first visit to the dentist around their first birthday. You can maintain their dental hygiene by teaching them how to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes. This will help prevent dental issues in the future.

How To Handle Separation Anxiety
It is completely normal for toddlers to experience separation anxiety. Separation anxiety could intensify with the introduction of nursery school. A child may wonder how they will make it through the day without their parent by their side. Below are some ways to help them deal with separation anxiety.
Preparation is Key
Right before your toddler gets on the bus to go to nursery school, tell them what to expect. It is also important to tell your child that they will have fun and learn new things at nursery school.
Tell Your Child Where You Will Be
Separation anxiety can stem from the belief that children will not see their parents. Tell your child that you will be at home or work. That way, they know where you will be. Reassure them that you will see them at the end of the school day.
Small Reminders Make A Big Difference
A small gesture can really make your toddler's day! When a toddler finds a hand written note in their lunchbox, it will comfort them.

What A Child Learns In Nursery School
There is no denying that nursery school is an important part of a child's development. At Miss Sue's Nursery School, we take early childhood education seriously. You might be wondering, "What will my child learn at Miss Sue's?" We are here to answer that question and set the record straight.
Language Arts
Toddlers in nursery school are still developing and growing. They are also learning how to grow their vocabulary as well. Children will learn the 26 letters in the alphabet. They will also learn about the concept of upper case and lower case letters.
Math
It is important for children to understand math concepts--even at an early age. At Miss Sue's, we teach children about numbers and the concept of counting.
Art
When your child draws or paints a picture, it is helping them develop motor skills. In addition, it allows them to express feelings and emotions without speaking.

How To Promote Curiosity and Learning in Toddlers
It is no secret that toddlers are curious by nature. It is important to nurture this natural curiosity and let them explore. Below are some helpful tips on how to keep curiosity alive.
Ask Questions
Toddlers are aware that some questions cannot be answered with a simple yes or no. They require further explanation. Asking your child an open-ended question can stimulate their imagination and get them to come up an interesting answer.
Encourage Children To Pursue Their Interests
When your child has an interest in a sport or activity, encourage them to pursue it. Children learn more when they are genuinely interested in a topic or activity. A little encouragement goes a long way!
Child's Play
Playtime may seem like fun and games, but it is another opportunity for children to learn about the world around them. Giving your toddler toys, blocks or play dough helps them unleash their creativity and curiosity.
At Miss Sue’s Nursery School, our prime educational goal is the development of the whole child. We have a multi-sensory, holistic approach to learning. Our learning centers emphasize problem solving, self-confidence, self-esteem and independence. If this is the type of environment you want from a nursery school, enroll your child today. Please call us for an appointment or with any questions (24 hours/7 days a week) at 516-938-0894.
