The History of Miss Sue's Nursery School

Miss Sue's has been around for over 50 years. That's a long time! Are you interested in learning about how it all began? If so, keep reading to learn about the history of Miss Sue's Nursery School.

Humble Beginnings
Sue Kuznetz founded Miss Sue's in 1958. Classes were originally held at her home in the basement. Word quickly spread throughout the community about her groundbreaking curriculum and teaching methods.

Time To Expand
The basement could no longer keep up with the demands of her many students. In 1968, she bought a house on Old Country Road and transformed it into Miss Sue's Preschool. In 1968, Sue's son Ronnie decided to help out with the family business.

A Family Legacy
Sue retired in 1975 and moved to Florida. She passed on the torch to Ronnie. It wasn't long before he got his family involved. Ronnie’s daughter and son-in-law, Marissa and Mike Wagenberg, son Mike Kuznetz, and step-son Matt Spolansky help make Miss Sue's what it is today. They are always looking for new teaching methods and educational materials that will enrich the program.

At Miss Sue's Nursery School, we go to great lengths to provide your children the best education available. That's why we have been voted the "Best Nursery School" for the past six years! We invite you to visit our school and see our program in action. Please call us for an appointment or with any questions (24 hours/7 days a week) at 516-938-0894.

The Purpose of Nursery School

Our students engage in playtime each day. While this may seem like fun and games, it is so much more than that. Nursery school has a purpose. Keep reading to find out what that is.

Independence
Prior to nursery school, children are extremely reliant on their parents. Once a child goes to nursery school, they will take responsibility for themselves and their actions. It can foster a sense of independence.

Prepping for Kindergarten
Sending your child to nursery school also preps your child for kindergarten. They will learn how to behave in a classroom setting. This will only make the transition to kindergarten even easier.

A Lifetime of Success
A child learns the most information in the first 4 years. They can process and learn new information at a very rapid pace. You need to trust these special years in your child's development to a superior nursery school. It will help ensure your child's success in life. Miss Sue's can help you child do just that.

Ease the Transition From Nursery School to Kindergarten

At Miss Sue's Nursery School, we understand that it can be difficult for a child to transition from nursery school to kindergarten. Luckily, we are here with helpful tips to make the change a little bit easier.
  • Allow your child to express thoughts and feelings about transitioning to kindergarten. You may be able to calm some of their fears.
  • Reassure your child that they will still be able to see their friends from nursery school. After all, play dates are easy to coordinate.
  • Read your child books about kindergarten. That way, they will have an idea of what to expect.
  • Establish an early morning routine with your child prior to attending kindergarten.
  • Go over what a typical day is like.
Our kindergarten program is an extension of our nursery school philosophy. Children continue to work at their own levels in learning centers. More challenging reading and math readiness skills are presented through language experience activities and child-centered investigations. Are you interested in enrolling your child at Miss Sue's? Call 516-938-0894 today to inquire about enrollment.

Signs Your Child Is Ready for Kindergarten

A lot of parents are unsure of what age to put their child in kindergarten. It is important to remember that the every child is different. Instead of focusing on their age, assess whether or not your child is ready for kindergarten. Below are some indications that your child is prepared.
  • Potty Trained- Children who are entering kindergarten should be potty trained. That way, children will be able to use the bathroom on their own.
  • Language Skills- It is not necessary for children to know every letter of the alphabet. However, they should be able to recognize a majority of letters.
  • Social Skills- Does your child play well with others? If so, it will only make the transition from nursery school to kindergarten even smoother.
  • Motor Skills- Can your child throw a ball or hold a pencil correctly? These are both signs that your child has the motor skills needed to excel in kindergarten.
